Editorial Policy

Last updated:

LJ Hair Lab publishes free tools and guides about hair care. This policy explains how we decide what to say, where our information comes from, and what we do when we get something wrong.

Sources we use

  • Peer-reviewed research found through PubMed and dermatology and cosmetic-science journals — preferred for any claim about how hair behaves.
  • Safety assessments from the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) for statements about ingredient safety.
  • Regulations and official guidance (for example U.S. FDA labeling rules and the American Academy of Dermatology).
  • Professional practice — what licensed stylists commonly do — which we label as practice, not proof.

Every page lists its sources and the date its data was last reviewed. When research is thin or mixed, we say so. We don't cite studies we haven't read, and we don't present community ideas (like “protein overload” or the LOC method) as settled science.

Tools

Each tool has its own logic — a formula, a rule set or a data table — documented on the page. Formulas are covered by automated tests. Default values (such as a growth rate of half an inch a month or a price per pack) are shown and editable, and we explain where they come from.

Health topics

Our content is educational and isn't medical advice. We don't diagnose, treat or promise to cure any condition. Pages about shedding, hair loss or scalp problems include a clear recommendation to see a board-certified dermatologist. See the medical disclaimer.

Writing and AI

Our writers may use software tools — including AI assistants — for research support, outlining and editing. A human editor checks every published page against its sources, and nothing is published only because software produced it. We never copy other sites' descriptions or reviews.

Independence, ads and affiliates

Ads are placed by Google and are kept apart from tool buttons. Affiliate links are labelled and marked rel="sponsored". Brands can't pay for a verdict in the ingredient checker or a place in our guides. See the affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If you find an error, tell us. We review reports within a few business days, fix confirmed errors, and update the page's review date. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the page.
