Hair Product Unit Price Calculator

Compare hair product prices per ounce or per 100 ml across sizes, multipacks and stores to find the cheapest offer.

Example offers with example prices — enter the sizes and prices you're looking at.

12 fl oz bottle

33.8 fl oz liter

2-pack of 16 fl oz

“fl oz” measures volume (liquids, gels); “oz” on jars of butters and pomades usually means weight. Pick the unit printed on the label.

How to use the Hair Product Unit Price Calculator

  1. Enter each offer

For every size or store, type a label, the price, how many come in the pack and the size of each item.

  2. Pick the unit from the label

Choose fl oz, ml or L for liquids, or oz, g or lb for products sold by weight. Use the unit printed on the package.

  3. Add more offers

Use “Add an offer” to compare up to eight sizes, multipacks or stores.

  4. Press “Compare unit prices”

Offers are ranked cheapest first by price per fluid ounce and per 100 ml (or per ounce and per 100 g for weight), with how much less each costs than the priciest.

How the price per ounce calculator works

Stores sell the same conditioner as a 12-ounce bottle, a liter pump and a two-pack, often with a sale on one of them. A price per ounce calculator strips away the packaging and leaves one comparable number per offer.

total size = size each × pack count
price per oz = price ÷ total ounces
saving       = 1 − (this offer's unit price ÷ priciest unit price)

Volume and weight stay apart

A fluid ounce is a measure of space; an ounce is a measure of weight. Liquids are labelled in fluid ounces or milliliters, while jars of butter, edge control or pomade are often sold by weight in ounces or grams. Converting one into the other needs the product's density, which labels do not give — so volume offers and weight offers get separate rankings instead of a misleading single list.

Every unit you will see on a label

You can enter fluid ounces, milliliters, liters, ounces, grams or pounds. Each offer is converted to milliliters or grams behind the scenes, then shown per ounce and per 100 units so it matches whichever shelf tag you are checking.

Before you buy the cheapest

The lowest unit price is only a saving if you finish the product before it goes off and you use it the same way. A huge tub you use twice a month may expire first, and a cheaper formula you need more of can cost more per wash.

Common hair product sizes and conversions

Size on label Metric If it costs $10
8 fl oz 237 ml $1.25 per fl oz
12 fl oz 355 ml $0.83 per fl oz
16 fl oz 473 ml $0.63 per fl oz
33.8 fl oz 1000 ml $0.30 per fl oz
4 oz jar (weight) 113 g $2.50 per oz
8 oz jar (weight) 227 g $1.25 per oz
12 oz jar (weight) 340 g $0.83 per oz
16 oz jar (weight) 454 g $0.63 per oz

1 fl oz = 29.57 ml · 1 L = 33.81 fl oz · 1 oz = 28.35 g · 1 lb = 16 oz = 453.6 g.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate price per ounce?

Divide the price by the number of ounces. For a multipack, multiply the size by the number of items first: a 2-pack of 16 fl oz for $22.49 is 32 fl oz, so $22.49 ÷ 32 = about 70 cents per fluid ounce.

What is the difference between fl oz and oz on hair products?

Fluid ounces (fl oz) measure volume and are used for liquids like shampoo and conditioner. Ounces (oz) without “fl” measure weight and often appear on jars of butters, pomades and gels. They are different units, so this calculator ranks volume and weight offers separately.

Is the bigger size always cheaper per ounce?

Usually, but not always. Sales, multipacks and store brands can make a mid-size bottle the cheapest per ounce. Enter every option you see and let the price per ounce calculator rank them.

How do I compare a bottle in ml with one in fl oz?

Pick the unit printed on each label — the calculator converts everything (1 fl oz = 29.57 ml) and shows both price per fluid ounce and price per 100 ml.

Why compare price per 100 ml?

It is the same comparison on a metric scale. Many imported products and some store shelf labels use it, so seeing both makes it easy to check a shelf tag.

Is the cheapest per ounce always the best deal?

Only if you use the same amount of each product. A concentrated formula can cost more per ounce yet less per wash. To compare different products by how much you use, try the hair product price comparison.
