How to use the Hair Journal

  1. Sign in with your email

Enter your email and open the one-time link we send you. There is no password to remember, and the link expires after 15 minutes.

  2. Log a wash day

Tap “New entry”, tick the steps you did, add the products you used and rate how your hair turned out from one to five stars. Add notes about the weather or your technique.

  3. Add progress photos

After saving, add up to five photos per entry. They are private — only you can see them — and JPEG, PNG and WebP photos are re-saved on your device first, which removes location data.

  4. Set reminders

In Reminders, add protein treatments, relaxer touch-ups or braid takedowns. We email you on the due date, and repeating reminders roll forward on their own.

  5. Check your insights

Insights averages your ratings for every product you have used at least twice, so you can see which products give you your best wash days.

  6. Export or delete anytime

Under Your data, download everything as a file, import measurements from the Length Retention Tracker, or permanently delete your account and photos.

How to use the Hair Journal (50 s)

How it works

A hair journal turns wash days into data you can learn from. Most people remember that a twist-out was great, but not which deep conditioner they used or how humid it was that week. Writing it down — and rating the result — makes patterns visible within a month or two.

Signing in without a password

Enter your email and we send a sign-in link that works once and expires after 15 minutes. Opening it starts a session on that device for 30 days. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of each link and session, so even a leaked database could not be used to sign in as you.

Logging a wash day

Each entry holds the date, the steps you did, the products you used, a one-to-five rating and free-form notes. Use the same product names each time — Insights groups entries by name. When our product database is available, the product field suggests names as you type.

Private photos

You can add up to five photos per entry. They upload straight from your browser to private storage — never to a public page — and are shown back to you through links that expire after a few minutes. JPEG, PNG and WebP photos are resized and re-saved on your device before upload, which also strips hidden location data. HEIC photos from iPhones are uploaded as they are.

Reminders

Add reminders for protein treatments, relaxer touch-ups, braid takedowns or anything else. We email you on the due date, around 8 a.m. Eastern. Repeating reminders move to their next date automatically; pause or delete them whenever you like.

How Insights works

For every product that appears in at least two rated entries, Insights averages the ratings of those wash days and lists your best and lowest-rated products. It is simple on purpose: an average of your own ratings. It cannot separate the effect of one product from the weather, your technique or the other products in the routine, so treat it as a hint to test, not a verdict.

Your data, your call

Under Your data you can download everything as a JSON file, import measurements from the Length Retention Tracker and permanently delete your account. Deletion removes your entries, photos, reminders and measurements immediately. Read the privacy policy for the full details.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hair journal free?

Yes. Signing up, logging wash days, photos, reminders and insights are all free. There is no password — you sign in with a one-time link sent to your email.

Who can see my hair photos?

Only you. Photos are stored in a private bucket and shown to you through links that expire after a few minutes. We never publish them or use them for anything else. JPEG, PNG and WebP photos are re-saved on your device before upload, which removes location data from the file.

How do I delete my account?

Open Your data, type DELETE and confirm. Your entries, photos, reminders and measurements are permanently deleted straight away. Export your data first if you want a copy.

What should I write in a hair journal?

The date, every step you did (pre-poo, cleanse, deep condition, leave-in, styling), the exact products, how your hair felt over the next few days and anything unusual like humid weather or a new technique. A rating from one to five makes patterns easy to spot.

How does the journal know which products work best?

Insights averages the ratings of the wash days you used each product on, once a product appears in at least two rated entries. It is a helpful pattern, not proof — weather, technique and the other products you used all play a part.

Can I bring in my measurements from the length tracker?

Yes. Export your data from the Length Retention Tracker and import the file under Your data. Re-importing updates the same dates instead of creating duplicates.
