Hair Care Budget Calculator
Add up products, salon visits, braids, tools and accessories to see your hair care budget per month and per year — and where to save.
How to use the Hair Care Budget Calculator
-
Enter your monthly products
Under Products, type what you spend on hair products in a typical month. If you used the cost-per-use calculator, its monthly total is filled in for you.
-
Add salon services and protective styles
For each service, enter the price per visit and visits per year. For braids, wigs or sew-ins, enter the cost of one install including the hair and how many times a year you get it.
-
Add tools and accessories
Enter each tool’s price and how many years it lasts, and each accessory’s price and how many you buy a year. Remove the example lines you don’t need.
-
Set your tip
The tip percentage is added to every salon visit and protective-style install.
-
Press “Calculate my budget”
See your yearly and monthly total, a chart of spending by category and three saving ideas for your biggest costs. Download the PDF budget or copy the link.
How the hair care budget calculator works
Hair spending is hard to see because it arrives in different rhythms: products every month, a press every few weeks, braids a few times a year and a dryer once every several years. A hair care budget calculator puts all of it on the same yearly scale so you can compare like with like.
How each category is converted
- Products and extras are entered per month and multiplied by 12.
- Salon services are price per visit × visits per year, plus your tip.
- Protective styles are the cost of one install, including the hair, × installs per year, plus your tip.
- Tools and appliances are spread over the years they last — price ÷ years.
- Accessories are price × how many you buy in a year.
The monthly figure is the yearly total divided by 12. It will not match any single month — a braid install month is always heavier — but it is the amount to set aside each month so the big appointments never catch you off guard.
Where the saving ideas come from
After you calculate, the categories are ranked by yearly cost and you get one practical idea for each of your three biggest. Savings in a small category rarely move the total, so the ideas always start where most of your money goes.
What it does not do
The tool does not know local prices; every number on the form is an example until you replace it. It also cannot judge value — a stylist who keeps your ends healthy may save you more over time than a cheaper visit. If you want a precise product figure, work it out first with the cost-per-use calculator and bring the monthly total across.
